Kiind CEO, Carrie Clark and Board Chair, Cristian Rapanaro welcomed Hon. Don Punch MLA, Minister for Disability Services to the Family Resource Centre at Perth Children’s Hospital earlier this week.
During his visit, he presented us with a grant from Lotterywest that will enable us to expand our information resources and help build the capacity of parents and carers to navigate complex systems such as health, NDIS, and education.
The early years of life, from 0-8 years, are an important period in childhood development and global research shows that what happens during these years impacts one’s life trajectory of life, including long-term social and wellbeing outcomes.
For children who are developmentally delayed, are at risk of developmental delay, or have a new diagnosis, the early years are a particularly crucial time. The supports and interventions provided to them during these years can have a profoundly positive impact throughout their lifespan when they have access to necessary support.
The outcomes of children with developmental delay or disability heavily rely on the capacity of the parents and carers to seek a diagnosis for their child, build an understanding and literacy of the diagnosis, and get the supports in place during these early years of childhood development.
With the help of this Lotterywest grant, Kiind will be able to create useful information resources in various accessible formats for parents and carers of children aged 0-8 years with disability or developmental delay.
Having access to this program will build the capacity of parents and carers to:
We want to thank Lotterywest for their support in helping families raising children with disability reach their full potential.
