Next Steps

Next Steps

Book a Next Steps consultation and we’ll help you get connected to support, services and other families raising children with similar diagnoses and conditions

What is Kalparrin’s Next Steps Program?

Our Next Steps Program provides parents and carers in Western Australia, who are raising children with disability and/or additional needs, with free, one-on-one support.

What happens in a Next Steps session?

At any point in your child’s journey, we invite you to schedule a Next Steps session with a member of our Peer Navigation Team.

During this informal session, which typically takes between 30 minutes to one hour, we will work with you to gain an understanding of how you, your child, and your family are travelling.

We will help you identify your current needs and any gaps you may have, and help you find the answers you’re looking for.

Next Steps can be conducted via telephone or video call.

Where we can help

NDIS
Including Early Childhood Intervention (ECI), submitting your NDIS application, preparing for a Planning meeting, understanding your child’s Plan, preparing for a Plan review, preparing for the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT), and NDIS resources and templates.

Education
Including navigating your child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP), supporting your child through school refusal, exploring school options for your child, advocating for your child at school, planning for your child’s life after school

Funding and other financial support for families and carers
Including accessing Centrelink payments and other funding sources such as Variety WA grants

Parent and carer support
Including free and low-cost counselling, finding support groups

Disability Advocacy
Including how to find a disability advocate and advice on self-advocacy (advocating for your child)

Other areas of help include:
– Connecting to diagnosis-specific support groups
– Supporting your child’s siblings
– Supporting your child’s challenging behaviours
– Connecting with other families in a similar position
– Finding recreational opportunities
– Finding inclusive events for your family
– Navigating the paediatric health system in WA

– Preparing for the future
– Transitions such as your child starting school, leaving school or turning 16
– Accessing crisis support

Not sure if Next Steps is right for you?

Rest assured, our Peer Navigators all have lived experience of caring for a family member with disability and significant experience working in the disability sector.

Our team are committed to providing a safe and judgement-free place to help you find the answers you need to best support your family.
