He has a wonderful EA and teacher but resourcing from Schools Plus and the processes associated with it is ridiculous.
Are you a parent of a child with a disability aged 2-12 years?

Would you like to learn how to teach your child self-care, social, communication and self-regulation skills?

Does your child behave in ways that are difficult to manage?

If you can answer YES to these questions, have not recently attended a Triple P or SSTP course, and your child is not currently receiving behavioural support elsewhere, you are eligible to participate in this project!

Stepping Stones Triple P (SSTP) is a positive approach to parenting that helps parents to promote child development and manage their child’s behaviour in a constructive and caring way. It helps parents recognise causes of common child behaviour problems and to encourage desirable behaviour in their children. The program is world-acclaimed and research has proven that it is successful in helping families who are experiencing behavioural difficulties with their children.

Disability Services Commission and Curtin University are working together to evaluate the effectiveness of the Stepping Stones group program and Stepping Stones self-help program in Perth, Western Australia. Participants in this project will be randomly allocated to the group program, the self-help program, or a waitlist. Families on the waitlist will have the opportunity to choose either the group program or the self-help program at the completion of the project.

Participation in the group and self-help program are completely free, and participants will be provided with resources free of charge

To help evaluate the group and self-help programs, participants will be asked to complete three assessments over nine months. The assessments consist of a questionnaire and an observation. Each questionnaire takes approximately 40 minutes to complete and asks about your child’s behaviour, your behaviour management strategies and family stressors. Each observation takes about 20 minutes and involves an unobtrusive recording of your child at a time when his or her behaviour is difficult to manage.

To thank you for your assistance with this important research project, you will be offered $20 for each of the assessments you complete

If you would like more information, or would like to participate in this project, please contact Damian on d.west@curtin.edu.au or 9266 3575.

Hi... My son is almost 5 and has physical and intellectual disabilities. I am searching for a good swimming program for him. We have been doing mainstream classes until now (more for fun and exercise than swimming). He could do with more targetted swimming lessons and fun with other kids similar to him. He is unlikely ever to swim on his own but I don't want him to miss out on the experience as he loves the water, interacting with kids but mainstream classes for his age are just too advanced for him now and the junior classes are boring him. Any suggestions? Simone.

Kalparrin has a representative on the Hospital School Services committee for PMH, and would really like to have any comments from parents whose children have used the service (or should have been offered the service but haven't) so we can give them useful feedback to aid in improving services.
Just thought I'd introduce myself and say hi, and hopefully there are other people reading who'll do the same so we can get some conversations started.

I have 2 daughters, 8 and 9, one with special needs and one not. My 9-year-old has an intellectual disability that probably comes from a rare metabolic disorder, though we just found out (somewhat randomly) that she also has spina bifida. Oh, and epilepsy too.

I've been a member of Kalparrin for probably around 5 years and have been to a handful of Mothers Respite Weekends (aka camps). I HIGHLY recommend them if you want a weekend to relax, let your hair down and be with other mums who know what you're going through.

I like reading, theatre, music and long walks in the woods.
